I bought mine for 2,000.... But mine was an auto. But I have every option in the book on it including hids and and a sunroof, so it's got that going for it.

I had the chance to buy a five-speed '05 Linear model last summer for $3,500 with under 60,000 miles.
And I kick myself in the ass everyday for not buying it. I wish I could get a second crack at taking it home. I even have a picture of it I can look at and be sad over.
Now, before you ask, it was cheap for two reasons. The first was this dent:
And the second was the interior, which I didn't take a picture of. It was absolutely filthy — dog hair everywhere, mud in the carpet, the interior reeked of old cigarette smoke, and on and on.
Even still, it was a hell of a deal, mechanically sound, and I ... damn ... I need a damn tissue. WHY DIDN'T I BUY YOU???

Kind sir, where did you find your cheap 9-2X? I need a cheap Saabaru in my life.

Forgot to mention, I've seen that particular 9-2X Mr. Arch Duke posted on Cincinnati's Craiglist now for about a month. Poor thing needs a home. It's just $500 out of my price range right now (provided that the current bid is close to the reserve price).

They are quite rare but check craigslist. Be prepared to settle with one with issues. But I'll probably be running 150% (did I mention mine has a hybrid motor with parts from an sti) with less then $1500 in repairs. Clean title no history.

Fun fact that barely anyone knows: only the Aero models (hood scoop ones) had the WRX engines. The rest Were NA

My gut tells me that it's probably a mistake, but my heart tells me that some mistakes are worth making. I say go for it.

The aero came with either a 4 speed automatic, or the 5 speed stick. Mines the automatic and it's just a basic boring transmission. The upside is it can handle about 800 whp.

I was just joking on the fact that automatic transmissions are not only boring but also evil.
Would never buy an automatic, I don't see the point of driving a car without a stick and a clutch pedal.
Sequential doesn't save itself either imo, only reasonable for racecars and track day cars.

You should really try a good dual clutch, honestly I enjoy mine in my m3 more then I would with a stick. The saab is my winter beater/project car but I'll eventually swap the 6 speed from an sti in it.

You will have to swap the entire drivetrain, because the final drive ratios are not the same.

I think we have to agree to disagree on this one :)
I own a lotus exige with manual and let me tell you, I think the formula is perfect, I don't see how getting less involved equates to more enjoyment.
I also own a wrx wagon so we own the same car in different costumes! lol
I've been adding some STI parts to my wrx (suspensions, brakes, seats) but can't modify the engine since it's illegal in Italy to change a car's power :(
Also I believe we didn't get the Saabarus here in Italy, a real shame!

forgot to mention, I tried a sequential on an Evora of a friend.
Is not like I'm not impressed with it, I just think that ofter the wow factor of "wow, I'm shifting instantly", comes the sensation that I don't have much to do aside from revving.
It might just be me, but shifting gears is like the thing I like more in a car both going fast or slow.

Rear dif and transmission. It's not that hard. Here's my engine right now.

I haven't heard anything about lotus and there smg as I would only get one in a stick too. Try BMW's dct or Porsches pdk, you might be pleasantly surprised. I've only had experiences with an smg in a e46 and it felt laggy and sloppy, but for my m3 I think it goes perfectly. Saabarus are just wrx's with an sti steering rack and a different front and rear end. I've seen some heavily modified cars with Italian plates before so I'm surprised that law is enforced. What they won't know won't hurt them I guess.

the law is not "enforced" per say (they won't stop you to open your hood), but you need to have some good connections (or dumb luck) to pass a "revision" with a modified engine.
I guess is not that hard to cheat the system, but I don't feel like risking my cars, besides I am quite satisfied already :)

Ah yes, the natural habitat of subaru engines. On a stand in some state of almost back together after the latest broken piston / spun bearing / whatever. LOL

Nah, I bought this one as a project and took the motor out to change a rear main seal. Thought it would be fun and am still enjoying the 330 whp out of a 4 cylinder.

Right you are, trans and diff is what I was referring to by "drivetrain," should have been more specific... obviously the axles would slip right in. I've had trans and diff in my '98 Impreza OBS replaced, but stuck with the 4AE because the work was all done at different times, as stuff broke or failed. Not to mention the 3-pedal conversion cost more than all of the above. That said, I'd love to one day have a manual OBS with STI innards.
